The Dorcy Family Thoughts and Prayers from Seattle April 1, 2009

Dear Stevens Family,

You have been in our thoughts and prayers since we first heard of Bud's death. Our apologies for this late expression of our condolences, but we each had thought the other had gone on line to do so. For the past dozen years or so visiting Canon Beach and staying at The Ecola Inn have been a precious and joyous part of our family's experience. We shall always be grateful to Bud and you for making it a special place where wonderful things could happen.

Lori and Krysta Sampson Blessings March 20, 2009

We just learned of Bud's passing and want to send our thoughts to the rest of the family.  My daughter, Krysta and I have been staying at the Ecola Inn for about 14 years (since she was 10).  It's been a respite for both of us, a place to reconnect during those sometimes difficult teenage years, a place to relax, truly a second home for both of us.  Bud often had interesting and comical stories to share and always seemed glad to visit with all the guests.  He was a touchstone of the Ecola Inn and will be missed.  We are sending you our thoughts and hoping you find strength with each wave that crashes on the beach.

Jeanette,
My mother (Ann Rasmussen) and I send our condolences to you and your family. I am so glad that I took a chance and stopped to see you after my high school reunion at the end of July 2007. I am glad that I got the opportunity to chat with you and with Bud. It was fun to reminisce with you about my days as a waitress in your restaurant. :o) I learned a lot from that experience! My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Sincerely, Cheryl Rasmussen Howell

We will miss our chats with Bud, as we missed them this past fall. Though we didn't always see eye to eye, we respected each other's opinions. Bud had strong feelings about issues, local, statewide and national and stated them well. We saw behind the "bluster" he liked to put forth and found the kindness that was in his makeup.
We know your sense of loss will endure, but so will his memory, like pictures from the past to add to the pleasures of the present and the future.

Dear Jeanette, Sally and Mike,
We are so sorry to hear about Bud. He was always very kind and considerate with my sisters and me each year we visited Cannon Beach. From earthquake/"tsunami" to raging storm, even though he was probably rolling his eyes, he looked out for us and saved us from ourselves. He was quite a remarkable man and we will miss his benevolent demeanor.

Our thoughts are with all of you,

Dear Jeanette, Mike and Sally,

You will never have to look far, to see Bud's love all around you. When you look at a beautiful sunset, or see a stormy day, he will be there. When you're walking along the shore and look up at Haystack Rock, he will be there. His Love will never be far away. A very special man he was on earth, greeting everyone with his dry humor, zest for life, and gracious hospitality. He is an Icon of Cannon Beach, and always will be. May the memory of his joyous laugh, and the warmth of his huge heart, surround you all at this time of sorrow. --Knowing that he is never far away...just look to the sea, and he will be there.

Our heartfelt sympathy pours out to all of you.

Dear Jeanette, Sally and Mike,

We received the news of Bud's passing with sadness, We knew his health was failing, but we're trying to accept a world without Bud Stevens. When we make our May R & R at Ecola Inn, we'll miss seeing Bud at the front desk and his cordial greeting, bit of a visit, and a twinkle of his eyes. And we'll also miss the inter-action between father and son--typical family issues. Over the twenty-some years of our annual, then semi-annual Ecola Inn R & Rs, we noted the Stevens family dynamics and agreed that Bud was indeed the leader of the pack. His devotion to his family and the operation of Ecola Inn were his life's mission. Bud didn't live his life in quiet desperation. As happy as a clam at high tide, his was an enviable life in the place he loved and with his family around him. He was blessed. We celebrate Bud Stevens' good life and the gift of having him in the fabric of our lives.

It was with real sadness that I received the message that you had lost Bud. We really missed seeing him last fall, and I'm sure I will always remember him either sitting at the desk or walking his dogs. You will have many treasured memories to sustain you. My deepest sympathy to you and the family.
Bob & Bev Hall Memories & Much Sadness March 13, 2009

Dear Jeanette, Sally, Mike & Samantha,

We are so deeply saddened to learn last week of Bud's passing in January.

As we read through the condolences and memories on this online memorial we are both at such a loss for the words to adequately convey what knowing Bud and all of you has meant to us.  We seem to echo all of the comments and tributes already written to acknowledge and commemorate this very special man.

Bob & I are blessed to have 30 years of wonderful memories to hold on to as we think of Bud and all of you.  Bud's greeting on each of our return visits was like the man himself, always something to be counted on, steadfast and true, comforting and solid in a world that otherwise shifted like the sand. We have always been made to feel special, like family members returning home.  We are forever grateful to have known the irreplaceable "Mr. Stevens".

We will miss Bud tremendously and hope that each of you will find peace, comfort and love in your memories.

Love & God Bless,

Bev & Bob Hall

Jim & Janice Cowin Thank You February 25, 2009

Thank You to the Stevens family. We were saddened to hear of Buds passing and will miss his big smile and the twinkle in his eyes. You are all a wonderful family and we have absolutely loved coming to your facility every year for the past 12 years. It pleases us to no end when we can share our home grown cherries with you all. The memory of having Bud tell us that those were "the best damn cherries I ever ate." was absolutely great. We will miss not having him greet us when we come back this June. He will be greatly missed.

Sincerely,

Jim & Janice Cowin
